Stryax japonicus. Masses of graceful, white, bell-shaped, pendant flowers June-July. Fine-textured deep green foliage. Small tree well combined with azaleas, rhododendrons, and mountain laurel. Cherry Trees

Kwanzan Flowering Cherry

Prunus serrulata ‘Kwanzan’. The most popular of all flowering Cherries. Large clusters of double pink flowers appear mid April. Foliage emerges with a bronze cast in spring and changes to orangish bronze in fall. Matures into a low, wide spreading tree ideal for residential use or street planting. Grows 30-40′ high. 1-1.5″ cal. or 6-8 ft. • 2-2.5″ cal. or 10-12 ft. • 3-3.5″ cal. or 12-14 ft.

‘Higan’ Weeping Cherry

Prunus sub.’pendula Plena Rosa. ‘Higan’ Weeping Cherry. Pink flowers engulf the canopy of this gracefully cascading tree late March to April. Grows 30-35′ tall, 15-20′ wide.

Lilac Trees

‘Ivory Silk’ Lilac Tree

Syringa Reticulata. Ivory Silk Lilac Tree. An upright tree to 25′ tall by 20′ wide. Yellowish-white flowers in loose clusters appear in late spring or early summer. It’s shiny, cherry-like bark and clusters of yellow-tan fruit capsules are somewhat showy in the fall and early winter. Yellow fall foliage. 2-2.5″ cal. or 10-12 ft.

 

Lilac Tree ‘Summer Charm’

Syringa.  An excellent selection with upright spreading form. Glossy, dark green foliage during the summer turns yellow in the fall. Flowers are impressive, creamy, white plumes. It has exfoliating, cherry-like bark. 15-20′ tall. (2-2.5″ cal. or 10-12 ft.)

Magnolia ‘Ann’

Magnolia Lilii flora ‘Ann’ Ann Magnolia A multi-stemed shrub variety developed at the National Arboretum. ‘Ann’ produces abundant deep purple flowers with white interiors in late April or May. Grows 12-15′.  Stunning fragrant fuchsia cup-shaped flowers with pink overtones held atop the branches in early spring before the leaves. Dark green foliage throughout the season. The large pointy leaves turn coppery-bronze in fall. 7-8′ plant

Magnolia ‘Jane Lily’

Magnolia Liliiflora ‘Jane’  A multi-stem shrub variety developed at the National Arboretum. ‘Jane’ produces abundant reddish purple flowers with white interiors in late April or May. Stunning fragrant burgundy cup-shaped flowers with a white reverse held atop the branches in mid spring before the leaves. It has dark green foliage throughout the season. Grows 12-15′. 2-2.5″ cal. or 10-12 ft.

Magnolia stellate ‘Royal Star’.  Large white, fragrant flowers are glorious in early to mid-April. Slow grower to 15-20′ tall and 10-15′ wide. Plant in protected area. Plant in spring in deep, rich, well-drained and moist soil. Needs full sun/part shade. Prune directly after flowering but rarely necessary. Extremely sensitive to a buried root crown, take precautions during planting. 5-6′ plant

Magnolia Virginiana. Extremely fragrant creamy white flowers, May. Plant in deep, rich, well-drained, and moist soil. Grows 15-20′ tall,10-15′ wide. Plant in full sun/part shade. Prune directly after flowering but rarely necessary. Never plant crown below soil level. (8-10′ plant)
